Introduction

In order not to waste time to configure NuFW.Live again at each boot, you may save the configuration to a USB key and load it back at any boot.

Requirements

You need a FAT32, EXT2 or EXT3 partition with at least 10 MB of free space. A floppy disk (1.44 MB) is not enough. Most USB keys have one big FAT32 partition and have a size of 256 MB or more, so any key can be used.

Backup

To make the configuration backup, go to the menu K, then Knoppix, *Configure, Save KNOPPIX configuration.

Once the application is launched, it will first ask you what should be saved. For our tests, the default choices are suitable, so you need only click on ok.

Next, you will have to choose where to save the configuration; an FAT32, EXT2 or EXT3 partition is required. In most cases, /media/fd0 is your floppy disk, /media/hdc is the CDROM disk, /media/sda* are the different partitions of your hard drive, and finally /media/sdb* are the different partitions of your USB key. So choose the partition /media/sdb1, the first partition of your USB key.

After that, the saving process starts.

Restoration

An extra parameter is needed to boot the machine: type "knoppix config=scan" at the boot loader. Be aware that the keyboard might be in azerty by default.

To check that everything works fine, you should check that during boot, a message "Checking XXXX for KNOPPIX configuration file" is displayed, followed by the message "Found, now executing XXXX", like on the figure below.
